Captains Corner

As a Team Captain, you have some responsibility. We hope the following makes it a little easier for you to ensure your team is ready to go. And as always, if you have questions just send us an email

The first daunting task facing a team captain is that of finding a team. Here are a few things you can do to make organizing a team just a little bit easier:

1. Don't worry if you can't think of all the people for your team off the top of your head to run with. Find a couple people interested in running with you, and then let them do some networking. Between you and a couple friends, and a couple of their friends, you will no doubt find a team of people wanting to run. You'll meet new people this way, and it takes some pressure off you having to recruit all the runners.

2. If you can find just one person who is extremely excited to be a part of the relay, half of your work is done. Let them find a few people to run with and you find the others.

3. Once you have verbal commitments from your friends, get registered and get them to pay their entry fees. I don't know about you, but once I pay my entry fee I'm doing it. Once they pay they are in...and less likely to back out at the last second.

4. Once you have a few runners who have firmly committed to running, go ahead and sign up. Not only will this secure your team's spot in the relay, but having spilt the entry fee only a couple ways, you and your team will be motivated to find some other runners. Keep in mind you can use our Team Matching Message Boards to find runners to round out your team.

Getting Team Ready

Okay you found enough people to run with...somethings to keep in mind:

  • You'll want to go over some logistics with your team prior to the relay. Determine how van exchanges will take place, who will drive, where you will meet, etc. The more you work out with your team ahead of time the easier it will be on the day of the relay.
  • Read over the rules so you are familiar with our rules and policies.
  • Keep an eye on our web site for up to date information about the relay. We'll post any changes to the course, legs, start times, etc and you should be aware of these changes
  • Get out and run a bit. Proper training, or some fun runs with your teams will help prepare you for the run.
  • Have fun! This isn't meant to be as serious as the olympic trials, have some fun with it!

Field Limit

The 2008 Sunrise to Sunset relay will be limited to the first 250 teams.

Team Entry Confirmation of Registration

As the team captain you will receive the majority of correspondence from the Sunrise to Sunset Relay staff. This includes confirmation of your teams entry once all of the paperwork is received.

Please make every effort to fill out the paperwork entirely. We would hate for your registration to be delayed due to missing information. Some things to consider:

Please make sure to write the team category you are signing up for on your paperwork (online or hard copy) DivisionsTeam Pace-Please be as accurate as possible with this. As we set start times based on team pace, it is essential we have as accurate an estimate as possible to make sure everything goes smoothly. If you "fudge" a little too much, we just may not be at the finish line yet to meet you!

Please note we will not be able to accept teams whose estimated finish time based on the team pace is greater than 35 hours (excludes SOLO runners). For safety reasons the course will close at 6:30pm on the March 29th. The finish line party is predicted to go much later!

See You At the Finish Line
