36 Legs-

-Unforgettable Experience!

The Sunrise to Sunset Relay travels 170 miles, and is the ultimate team relay event. Designed for runners of all abilities, teams will run legs of approximately 4-7 miles each, while making their way from Indian Riverside Park in Jensen Beach to the Historic Thomas Edison and Henry Ford Estates in Downtown Ft Myers. The 2nd annual Sunrise to Sunset relay is set to kick off March 28, 2008...don't miss out on the fun and excitement.

The relay begins at the idyllic setting of Indian Riverside Park, a 54 acre park nestled along the western shore of Indian River, and finishes in beautiful Centennial Park in Downtown Ft. Myers. In between runners can expect to run over the causeways of Jensen Beach, have legs on the roads in cities such as Stuart and Clewiston, run along the scenic trail of Lake Okeechobee, and in more rural settings of central Florida. Nearing the end of the run you'll experience the breathtaking views of the Caloosahatchee river as you cross the Edison Bridge into Downtown Ft Myers, where not only the finish line and a sense of accomplishment awaits you, but a darn good time as well.

Teams will start in groups of 5-10 based on their overall average of 10k times. Please check the Start Times page for a list of when teams will be starting. We should have team start times posted by the middle of March 2008. Your team captain will also be emailed your start time as soon as we have them set.

VOLUNTEERS

  • Each team will need 1 volunteer to ensure the event runs smoothly.
  • Only teams from within the "LOCAL COUNTIES" area are required to provide a volunteer. Excluded from the "LOCAL COUNTIES " requirement are teams with EVERY team member living outside the local counties. To see a list of the counties, please click HERE...

Most would say the volunteers have the easy part, they will help negotiate handoff's, staff water stations, make sure runners don't take a wrong turn at those more tricky parts of the run, help out at the start and finish lines, and in general be available where needed. We promise not to work you too long or hard, and when you are finished with your shift we expect the volunteers to party with us at the finish line! More information regarding volunteer duties will be emailed to the team captains as we get closer to the race. All volunteers will be briefed on duties well in advance of the run, so that everyone is comfortable with what they are being asked to do. We have a whole page dedicated to the art of being a volunteer, check it out for more information.

SOLO RUNNERS:

If you are a SOLO runner, it will be the responsibility of the Solo to provide enough volunteers to support this runner throughout the race. The course will be open for approximately 30 hours, any time a Solo runner is on the course beyond the 30 hours they must have a support team in place. Aide stations will not be available for the entire time a Solo runner is on the course.
